The Kumasi Academy Old Students’ Association of North America has organised the first fundraising dinner dance at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia-USA.
The objective of the fundraising is to build a multi-purpose science laboratory to mark the school’s 60th anniversary in 2017.
The event was attended by old students from as far back as the mid 60s to the new millennium, as well as affiliates of the school.
The chairperson of the occasion in the person of Mr. Anokye Poku of the pioneering class of the school warmly welcomed everybody to the event and laid down the objective for the gathering.
In his address he shared a recollection some of the great memories of his days and encouraged all guests to contribute generously to help build the science lab by 2017.
Also in attendance was the President of the Association in Ghana, Dr. Kwabena Dapaah Siakwan.
In his keynote address and presentation, he showed several of images depicting the progress of the project and ongoing activities at the construction site. According to Dr. Dapaah, the initial part of the project (foundation and ground filling) which is usually the most difficult, is nearing completion.
He indicated that a couple of old students have pledged to bear the cost of the ceiling and the roofing once the project gets to that level; and therefore urged all guests at the gathering to contribute towards the project which he considers very feasible.
He also pleaded with all students in other countries to organize themselves, especially at the year group levels to mobilize funds to support the project.
The fundraising ceremony was conducted by Pastor Ebenezer Doku, an old student who is currently based in New York. He was helped by Esi Mansa Addo of the 1994 year group who is also based in Maryland.
The pair entertained guests to a lively event which witnessed generous contributions to support the science lab project.
Following the fundraising activity was an open dance floor for all guests to enjoy and dance to great music to climax the occasion.
The team is also considering organizing the next fundraising in New York and urges all to join in the campaign. Follow the them on facebook, Kumasi Academy (Akunini-KAPSA).
